Is it sustainable and eco-friendly? You probably ask that or get asked that quite often when talking about new products you’ve purchased lately. We at McKee, focused on creating a brand that had ethical, sustainable and eco-friendly practices throughout all areas of our company.

McKee Packaging was one area that we knew had to be sustainable and eco-friendly. We want to be a part of the solution, not a part of the problem. That is why we partnered with No Issue, who developed our packaging here at McKee.

Our mailers are certified home compostable in 180 days and industrially compostable in 90 days. They are made of PBAT (a bio polymer) and PLA (a plant-based material derived from cornstarch and wheat straw). PLA is a wonderful material, as it takes 65% less energy than regular plastics to produce. It’s also non-toxic and generates 68% fewer greenhouse gasses. On top of that, we used a non-toxic water-based ink for our designs. No Issue mailers are certified by all three industry certifiers: Vincotte, BPI and Dincerto, meeting American, European, International and Australian standards — for both domestic home and industrial compost. The only residue left behind by our mailers is a soil enhancer which is returned to the earth as plant food.

Our tissue is made with Forest Stewardship Council certified paper, which is considered the “gold standard” designation for wood, harvested from forests that are responsibly managed, socially beneficial, environmentally conscious, and economically viable. We use a non-toxic water-based ink for all printing and our tissue can be recycled or composted, attaining multiple certifications.
